The Archeological Exploration of Sardis is a Harvard-Cornell project based at the Fogg Art Museum. During the past 45 years, the expedition has sought to clarify the cultural history and urban development of this important and complex ancient city in western Turkey. The exhibition "The City of Sardis: Approaches in Graphic Recording" seeks to show how the interests, aims, and approaches of the draughtsman, as well as developments in technology, affect the way in which Sardis has been depicted from the Age of Enlightenment to the Age of Computers. Prof. Greenewalt's lecture will "fill in the landscape" with observations on objects and other materials found at Sardis over the past many years.
